Children of the Storm: We found Maedesy, Miguel, and Mother Jeudy — in Mexico
You may recall we first found 15 year-old Maedesy in Colombia. Chuck Holton, Masako Ganaha, and I, were researching the migration issue in Texas and more, and next stop was Necocli, Colombia. And there, Masako spotted 15 year-old Maedesy and began to talk. (Earlier, I may have published that Maedesy is 16. Her mother said 15 today.)
Our first meeting was 03 March 2021. And again the next day on 04 March 21. Both times at Necocli, Colombia.
From Necocli we said goodbye and the trio headed into Darien Gap on their way through hell to Panama. We flew ahead to Panama.
While crossing the Darien Gap they witnessed much misery and death. Including a baby about five months who died just after exiting Darien Gap.
And today over dinner, the family told us about a Haitian man and his wife and baby. The wife/mother could not keep up in the jungle. She was losing hope. She sat down and the husband took the baby and began shouting at the Mother, his wife, to get up and keep moving. But she said she could not go on and the husband continued to shout at and berate her to keep moving. Instead, she keeled over dead. And they buried her on the spot.
The stories go on. Many. Rape, drowing, sickness, vampire bats licking blood when people sleep. Flash floods — so many. Bodies washed away forgotten.
But Maedesy, Miguel, and Mother all made it. And from there things continued with yet more misery through each country until now they are in Tapachula, Mexico. We flew in to find them. Maedesy still saying she wants to be a pediatrician or a flight attendent. Miguel has not made up his mind. Their Mother said her children will become professionals and well-educated at something, and her mission in life is to be the shoulders they stand on.
After dinner, they showed us where they life. $138 USD per month, and worth slightly less. Yet something about them. This family has internal strength. We all three could see this in Colombia and in the many messages since.
Tommorow we will spend all day with them going over the journey step by step. There was the mud where Mom went hip deep and she could not escape. Others could hardly get her out. Lost her shoe. The crackling electric fence in Nicaragua and the monkey bones. The crocodile. The rapes they saw but Maedesy escaped.
And so much more. Meanwhile, we’ve all been going strong. Chuck is still working in his room and I believe Masako is either still working or asleep in her own. I am about to hibernate bear-style.
My apology for not answering so many questions. Many folks asking if they should switch from Patreon to here. I think better to switch at this point. I get a bad feeling that Patreon will just shut me down one day for posting like this.
One difficulty with Locals is that unless you donate, you cannot comment. Otherwise, so far, I find Locals preferable to Patreon on various levels. I will get the hang of it soon. If there is a way to let folks comment without donating, I will find and click that button.
To be clear, I will continue to post same over at Patreon so long as folks are donating there.
MONTHLY is by far the best! Because I can plan.
Thank you and good night.
