Bullet Train, somewhere in Japan
Mind dump on bullet train, sans edit:
Am on a bullet train to Tokyo. Trying to get to London in time for Jordan Peterson event Sunday night in Oxford. Starting to get concerned am not going to make it…huge bummer if I miss this with Jordan. Jordan is ripping into these people destroying children and I want to help.
Quite a few folks messaged asking more about the Japanese bear hunter. Yesterday Masako and I spent two hours with Bear Hunter and so learned a great deal. A few items of interest:
Bear Hunter has a pet asian black bear. Three years-old. Bear Hunter said he found baby bear sick in the woods and didn’t want to leave it to die. Bear Hunter fed his pet bear an apple while we were there. I asked the bear’s name. Bear Hunter said the bear’s name is Bear. Bear is in a cage next to an eagle in another cage. Bear Hunter said Eagle was injured and thus ended up next to Bear.
I asked Bear Hunter many questions about bear hunting. Bear Hunter said he kills 90% of all the bears killed in his district. Bear Hunter said he kills about ten bears per year. Also plenty of deer and wild hogs. Bear Hunter showed many photos, skulls, skins, and much meat.
Bear Hunter kills most of his bears from very close. Two meters or closer. Even up to 30cm. About a foot away. Bear Hunter said he is fourth generation bear hunter and first hunted on his grandfather’s back when Bear Hunter was four years-old. He knows the ways of the bear. He said there are more bears now thank during is grandfather’s time because there are fewer hunters.
I asked if he ever hunts with sword or spear and Bear Hunter said only with cage-trap or rifle. He said in the old days hunters would take a spear into the bear hole and get them.
With cage-trap he uses honey and honey comb for bait. When hunting by rifle he uses a combination of tracking and ambush. Likes to hunt when there is snow — makes easier to track. Once Bear Hunter knows direction of travel, he moves around and ahead and tries to get far ahead of the bear. Bear Hunter sits on the ground and is quiet. Said he only peers around the tree with one eye over his shoulder. (Sits with back against tree).
I asked about scent. Bears have good noses. I asked Bear Hunter if he sun washes his clothes before hunting.
Sun washing is an old technique. Wash your clothes three times without soap and let them try in the sun. Bear hunter said no to sun-washing. I asked if he fasts before hunting. Some native types and super-serious soldiers will fast before hunting to reduce their scent and improve their own senses. Bear Hunter said no. He just hunts when it’s time to hunt.
Bear Hunter never schedules hunts. He just goes alone when conditions are right.
I asked if the birds tell him when the bears are close. He said no. I asked if the birds tell him when people are around. Bear Hunter said no and that the birds around here are stupid. I asked if the birds tell him where bears are. He said old people said Eagles will tell you where a bear is, but Bear Hunter is still not sure if that is true.
Bear Hunter said most people do not get a bear when they go out because they are just going to hunt. Bear Hunter said he is not going just to hunt. He is going to get a bear, deer, or pig. He never hunts to be hunting. He hunts to eat and have feasts with his family and friends. He took us to his bear din with bear rugs and skulls and photos and shooting trophies — he showed his targets and 500 meter spread with his 300win Mag bolt action. Hand loads his ammo at 5 USD per round. He’s a great shot but those long shots are for deer. For hogs he’s closer and for bear he is practically hand-to-hand combat.
Bear Hunter actually is a local rice farmer. Just he and Momma Bear Hunter living in a big house with big rice paddies around them. He said the Japanese government pays him $80 for each bear he kills but that makes no difference because he wants the meat. The 80 bucks is bonus. The fee for his six guns (I think five rifles and one shotgun) and hunting license is about $400/ three years. (I would have to look at video to get this right — cannot look now on bullet train — this is roughly right).
Parts of Japan are being overrun with bears, pigs, deer, and monkeys. With the disappearance of farmers day-by-day, much of Japan is returning to a wild state. There have not been any wolves here for about 150 years. I asked a few Japanese if they want any because there are some extra wolves in Netherlands.
I warned Japanese that if they see anyone trying to pass wolf-protection laws in Japan — that is indicator Japan will soon have wolves. This happened in Netherlands. Dutch people tell me there had been no wolves for many generations and suddenly there was a proposal for wolf protection laws. The laws were passed and the wolves magically appeared and now wolf packs are ripping up livestock in Germany and Netherlands, while the globalists blame farmers for taking wolf land…some of which land that Dutch had reclaimed from the sea. Maybe they had sea wolves and sea horses before the land was drained.
I do not know if foreigners are allowed to come to wild-kingdom-Japan to hunt…but I am here tell you these are some serious mountains with some serious game. Bears come into town and close to the schools where children are in school. These are serious bears and will kill you dead. Search “bear attacks Japan.” Godzilla is not here but the bears are.
There is a huge amount of fertile farmland left empty of all but the ghosts of Japan, and wild kingdom.
