Danger Grows in Kabul — with every passing hour
One of the quick lessons of this sort of war: sit still long enough, you will get hit.
OODA clock is running.
Taliban are smart fighters and realize if they close one runway they have closed us off, Alamo style. We must re-open Bagram and others such as Kandahar.
The President is down for the count. His brain is gone. There is no time to act or do something rational with him. Thousands of Americans’ lives depend on a riddled brain.
Americans are spread all over Afghanistan. Big country. Few roads. A friend’s family drove from Herat to Kabul last week and saw many bodies.
I’ve driven most of these roads. Thin, unguarded, long. Villages everywhere. Need gas. There simply is no way to travel safely— especially with family — unless you are expert at going camel style. And by that time, this game will be over and you will simply be in the Taliban equivalent of North Korea.
As days click by, Taliban will develop some plan to attack the airport. That’s how they roll. Likely some sort of breaching attack using vehicle bombs. If they can get onto airfield and destroy aircraft like they did in Camp Bastion, this will slow us down more. I published about that attack: https://www.michaelyon-online.com/afghanistan-when-the-moon-sets-watch-out.htm
The hunker in place order is a die in place order unless we send in Rangers, 82nd, Marines, etc. We need tens of thousands of troops. Must open numerous airfields to get out Americans.
I would not be surprised to see a major attack on Kabul Airport. Taliban have the resources, the terrain, the knowhow, the guts, and the enthusiasm.
