Two weeks is a bandaid in a firefight. Two months is a box of bandaids.
If you have the resources, go two years.
First rule of prep club: There is no prep club.
Stocking up in advance is neither panic buying nor hoarding. Panic buying is a product of ill preparation. Hoarding happens at the last minute, or after the shortage has begun.
1) Smart people are preppers
2) Slow people are panickers
3) Slow people with resources become hoarders
There is another type of hoarding that occurs opportunistically — speculators. But those who stock up far in advance do not stress the supply chains or compete during emergencies. If Everyone was prepared, true emergencies would be fewer and less intense.
Imagine a hurricane when everyone already has three months food supply. No problem. The relatively few people who lose everything can easily be absorbed by the prepared. But when very few people are prepared — like now — the preppers must run secretly.
Always remember that for some people, the prep-plan is to take their gun and rob their neighbors. Or show up with a crying family.
Don’t be out back grilling steaks during a food emergency. People who have gone hungry can smell food from far distance.
Been there done that.
